~ N E A R N E S S ~ What does it really look like to be near to God?
Near to God is a place I so desperately want to be. The concept of nearness is something I have been mediating on the past few days. We know that the Lord is always near to and present in His creation. He is immanent and promises to never leave us. In fact, this is what the gospel is all about. God sent his Son to suffer and die for our sins, so that through him we have the ability to draw near to God. “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away, have been brought near by the blood of Christ” Ephesians 2:13 In this, the Lord’s mercy is magnified. Despite all of our sin, we have been given free access to our Father through his son Jesus Christ. This presence of our Father is all that can truly ever satisfy. “You make known to me the paths of life, you will make me full of gladness in your presence” Acts 2:28 It is up to us to choose daily to draw near to Him. I can promise you He is waiting for us in every moment with arms open wide. Our Father’s deepest desire is for us to spend time with him, to come to him, and rest in His presence. Nearness does not require any physical movements from place to place. We need not fill our life with achievements, or complete tasks to get closer to God. We must simply direct our hearts into the presence of our Savior. To wake up each day with the joy of salvation in our hearts, is to remember our Fathers Holy sacrifice. We can confidently come before the Lord knowing that He will keep His promises to us. We respond to this promise of salvation by seeking to know God through His Word and through prayer. The more time we actively choose to spend with Him, the better we can get to know Him. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to settle for a Christian life at a distance from God. I want Him to be my very best friend. I want to live in communion with the King of Kings. So ... daily I will choose to draw near to the Lord. ~ At any moment we are as very near to God as we choose to be ~
